Caring For South Asian Families: Maternal And Child Health Issues In Clinical Practice

Time: 8:00am - 12:30pm
Course Overview: The conference will shed light on the challenges and offer resources for professionals to assist patients and their families with gestational diabetes, low birth weight, postpartum depression, genetic disorders, obesity, and nutritional challenges in a culturally effective and responsive manner. This activity is designed to engage the learners using clinical case scenarios and a family genogram (i.e. pictorial chart of a South Asian family's medical history and hereditary patterns). The genogram will provide a useful context for faculty and learners to discuss health risks, biopsychosocial and cross-cultural issues, and familial and intergenerational dynamics affecting the management of health and illness.
